Vegan Backpacks and Bags by ETHNOTEK

The story of ETHNOTEK begins in 2007 in the mountainous regions of northern Vietnam. In one of the many villages inhabited by the native Hmong, US American Jake Orak, who was backpacking at the time, discovered the colourful woven fabrics that the locals were weaving and had an idea. He wanted to protect this unique culture and help bring it into the 21st century by combining it with modern technology. He began to combine these high-quality, handmade materials – initially from Vietnam, but later also from Indonesia, India, Ghana and Guatemala – with high-tech western rucksacks. This proved to be a great fusion, as the subsequent success of ETHNOTEK has shown.

Orak and his team take advantage of globalization by using the potential of global trade to protect local handicraft and generate jobs in remote places. The bags from ETHNOTEK also function as worldwide ambassadors for the artistic traditions of many regions in the Global South. High-tech and ethnic style – this is ETHNOTEK.
